Altered: Purple Polka Dot Dress

Hi ladies! Today the temperature cooled down enough to wear my purple (polyester) dress. I thrifted this 70's dress during the summer and I loved the 50's vibe but those sleeves were ruining it. All I did was take in on the sleeves and shorten them to be 3/4 length. Sometimes small alterations make a whole lot of difference. I wore it with a peter pan collar and pinned a black bow, easy peasy. Here are the before and after pictures.

Quirky Pins

One of the great things about being a teacher, aside from the children, is getting a Thanksgiving break. I don't have many plans for my week off, but I'm definitely going to enjoy it. This is what I wore to work, I just noticed I have a lot of quirky pins. I got this one from Etsy, the cat is so soft and furry, just like a real cat, he kinda looks like my cat Jingles.

Gray & mustard

I have a strained eye, it looks all bloody and ugly, I've been teasing my son about looking at him with my "evil eye" and we have a laugh at it, he doesn't like looking at it. Hopefully it will heal soon, it doesn't hurt but it looks red all over. One of my students made me laugh today because she looked at my eye and asked very concerned "teacher, does it hurt? who are you going to throw it to? him?" looking at a restless little boy seating next to us. Oh the things kids say. =)

Revived vintage boots

I thrifted these boots during the Summer, they were the perfect find since I had been looking for tall boots with a mid-size heel. The zipper in one boot was broken, they had some water stains and the inner lining was disintegrating. I still  thought they deserved a second chance so I took them home for $8.00 bucks. I got rid of the water stains by gently cleaning them with a moist sponge followed by leather conditioner. I vacuumed the disintegrating lining (which can be toxic) and took the boot to the cobbler to get the zipper hook replaced, it cost me $20 dollars. In the end the total cost of the boots was $28 dollars but that's still a great price for boots made in italy. This is how I wore them today.

Sunday Best: Black Lace Dress Refashion

Can you have too many LBD? I guess so... I thrifted this silk/lace dress during the Summer, it's similar to the one below. This dress was hard to refashion mainly because the workmanship was impeccable. I kind of hated destroying it, but it was too pretty to leave behind and too matronly to wear as it was. For this refashion I took in on the sides, shortened the sleeves from long to 3/4's, and shortened the length of the dress. The collar is a detachable vintage collar.

Warm & cozy

Getting ready for Thanksgiving is a lot of work in a Pre-K classroom, you have place mats to paint, turkeys to decorate and Indian hats to make for our parade, phew! Lots of work ahead, but I'm really excited about the parade. This is what I wore to work today, I love my wool cardigan, it's perfect for the cool mornings. Hope everyone has a great week!

Sunday Best: Orange rust & Navy blue

This is what I wore to church today. I recently bought a 2" curing iron and I love the soft waves it creates. For the outfit I decided to wear my new navy blue flats, I bought them at TJ Maxx last week, another girl liked them a lot and followed me around to see if I would put them back, but I didn't, finders keepers!
