Out of the blues

The Texas summer heat is always hard on me, I grew up in the mountains where it's always green and cool no matter the season. Every summer I try to visit my family in Mexico, however, this year I had some unexpected house expenses so I could not escape the heat. Since it's been too hot for me to want to do anything I had been sitting at home in raggedy clothes, eating unhealthy, drinking lots of soda and it just went downhill from there. Today though, I decided to get up, get dressed and get out of the house. Getting dressed helped improve my mood a lot. It's interesting how clothes affect our mood. I'm on my way to eat lunch with my son. Hope everyone is having a great week!
I probably bought all the Ferragamo shoes on eBay. I rarely buy the same thing in different colors but these shoes are perfect for everyday wear and work, they've been my guilty pleasure this summer.

Sunday Best: Silk top

Hi everybody, I'm heading to church and then lunch with my friends, hopefully after that I can take a nap since I haven't been sleeping well lately. This is what I'm wearing, not one of my favorite outfits but it''s really hot outside and I needed something comfortable that I can wear all day. Hope everyone has a great Sunday!

Can you wash your Coach leather bag?

Well...I don't know if you should but I did. Last week I thrifted this leather Coach bag ($10.81) that was dirty and rusty in some places and was in big need of some good cleaning. I remembered this tutorial from The Elegant Bohemian on how she washed her leather bags and I decided to try it. I tossed the bag in the washer and hoped that it would work. After the bag was washed (in delicate cycle) I put it in the dryer for about 20 minutes (using the Air Dry setting/ no heat). Once I took it out it was still damp so I rubbed leather conditioner. I let it air dry a bit more and then repeated the step of applying conditioner. At the end I put a dry towel inside so it would keep it's shape and let it dry the rest of the night. It's completely dry and it looks much cleaner than before, in fact aside from a few minor stains it looks in excellent shape. If you want to try it I recommend following Serene's tutorial. Here are the before and after pictures.

Sunday Best: Layering lace

Hi everyone, today was a wonderful day, I saw one of my best friends at church, she had been gone for a while working for her ministry at another place. It's so great to have her back. For Sunday School our group was moved with the elders group because of an overbooking mistake. I enjoyed being with the elders, the are so jovial and loving. This is what I wore to church, the rest of the week I'll be back in shorts and flip flops, there is no use in trying to get dressed up when it's so hot outside you could cook an egg on the sidewalk. Hope you all have a wonderful Sunday and try to stay cool!

Getting dressed for me

Yesterday after eating cupcakes my son and I stopped by his favorite place, Barnes & Noble. While he looked at books I flipped through some fashion magazines. Most were about what to wear for your body type, what things don't work, what is "in" and what's not, etc. After reading a few articles I felt a bit restrained style-wise and a bit confused, I could also not figure out what my body type was based on their guidelines, not that it matters. Maybe I just don't get fashion magazines. By the way, I really liked reading this post on personal style that Waves wrote a few months ago, it makes more sense to me that the magazine articles and it's an excellent post.

Wash, rinse, and repeat

Here I am again, wearing my favorite skirt. My son and I are heading to The Cupcakery, it's a place where they sell delicious cupcakes! (what a surprise right?). Today out of the blue a thought came to my mind, I miss being around little children, I'm not saying I'm ready to go back to work, for I am really enjoying my afternoon naps, early morning workouts, and water park trips, but I do miss their little smiles.

Running a few errands today

Today I will be running a few errands, including taking my son to get his yearly eye exam, he'll probably need new glasses (wallet ouch!). This is the only blazer I have for the Summer, it's linen so it's  bearable to wear even in the Texas heat. Hopefully I'll be able to finish my to-do list and get it out of the way. Here's what I'm wearing today...

Refashion: Rusty orange cardigan

Orange is one of my favorite colors to wear during the Summer. I've had this cardigan for a while and although it was already orange it wasn't my favorite shade yet, so I bought some dye and I dyed it a shade darker. I was actually going for a terra cotta shade but the fabric didn't catch the color, I still like the end result. Hope you all have a terrific week!

One striped skirt, ten outfits

I don't follow any rules when I go shopping, usually I forget to come up with 4 different outfits in my head before I buy something. Most of the times if I like it, it fits and it's affordable I buy it. When I bought this striped skirt I didn't know how easy it would be to remix it. Here are 10 different outfits I came up with, I love every single combination. Is there anything in your wardrobe that you love to remix? How about a challenge?
Note: I'm on vacation during the summer, otherwise I would not have all this time to kill, but it was really fun to create so many outfits with one skirt!

Sunday Best: Striped skirt

I've wanted a striped skirt since last year, but all I could find was either: sold out, pencil shaped, or way beyond my budget. Last week I googled striped skirts and I saw this one, it's a full skirt, nice sized stripes, and affordable...and yes, it's from the kids section, but it fits well. I'm no petite or small framed girl at all, just a regular 10-sized woman, but the XXL plus (14-16) fits me just fine. Another option would be getting this one, but at $128 it's unfortunately too expensive for me. Anyway, this is what I wore to church today, have a great weekend everyone!
