Teapot belt

Sometimes when I'm thrifting I find things that I really like but don't fit, like this teapot belt. I bought it at the thrift store because it was cute but it was also very small for me, I still brought it home and tried to wear it once in a while. I also thrifted the white belt and I will admit I only bought it for the brand YSL, but I didn't like the gold buckle. It took me a while to realize that I could make them work if only I used the best of both belts. So I unstitched both buckles and used the cute teapot buckle and the supple leather white belt, stitched the belt back together and voila, now I have a cute teapot belt that fits.

Sunday Best: Being a mom

This week my son is off to his first mission trip, I'm very excited for him. Now that he's gone I can't help but notice how quiet the house is without him. Every time I walk by his room I'm surprised that his room is still clean! At first I was kind of sad that he left, but I know he's going to have an amazing experience. I'm also happy to get a break from one of the hardest, but most amazing jobs there is, which is being a mom. Hope everyone has a great week!

Sending you a love note

Good day ladies! I finally managed to get out of my gym clothes, it's really hard getting dressed only to stay at home most of the day, but today my mom invited us over for lunch and I got these shoes on the mail; both were very good reasons to put on some regular clothes. I'm wearing my refashioned shirt, as you can see I got a little carried away with the fabric markers but I liked the end product. ^_^

Sunday Best: Work in Progress

Sometimes when I refashion something I keep changing it over time, either because I wasn't completely satisfied with it or because it need a little tweaking. This dress is on the second round of refashioning and I can't say I'm done with it just yet, but today it seemed like the perfect dress to wear to church. All I did was remove the sleeves and the ruffled collar because they just added unwanted bulk, sometimes simple is better.

Florals and gingham

One of the problems I have when I buy shirts is that the medium size is usually a tad tight and the large size is too big. I've learned that bigger is better because you can always tailor clothing to fit you properly. This week I tailored a bunch of my shirts using this easy youtube tutorial. This shirt was one that I tailored, now it fits much better, hope it's a helpful link. Have a great weekend ladies!

Reviving an old brass necklace

This necklace and I were meant to be together. A couple of days ago I made a quick stop at the thrift store and saw this necklace, I wanted to buy it but because there was no price on it so the girl refused to sell it to me. I went back the next day and didn't find it so I thought maybe someone had already purchased it. Last Friday I visited the thrift store again, I was looking at their jewelry when I saw their bundle baggies at the bottom of the glass counter. They usually put unwanted jewelry in bundles and sell it in a bag, much cheaper too. From one of the bags I saw my necklace peeking out and I only paid $3.99. I was thrilled, I came home, gave it a good clean and headed to the store to buy copper paint because it needed a little retouch. I love how it looks now, it's the perfect statement necklace for the Summer. ^_^
Before
It had some rusty parts.
Materials used: copper and bronze color paints and a brush.
The paint dries fast and is permanent. Once it dried I used a nail file to distress it a bit and give it that vintage look.

Total price: About $7 bucks for materials + $3.99 for the necklace = $10.99, not bad!

Sunday Best: Little Updates

When I made this skirt I thought about wearing it with a lace slip under it, however the slip never stayed in place and it peeked out unevenly. Then I decided to wear it without the slip but it looked a lot like TinkerBell's skirt (not the look I was going for). Last night I decided to tweak the skirt a little, what I did was stitch some vintage lace to the hem. Now it looks much better and the lace stays in place. Little updates make a big difference.

How to make a stencil...

...and work with what you have. Yesterday after I made this shirt I went to the fabric store looking for a stencil but didn't find one I liked, so I decided to make my own. I googled shirt prints online and found this printed shirt I liked. I don't have a printer so I had to improvise and use what I had at home.

Materials needed
Wrap tissue paper
Pencil/ Pen
Fabric Markers
Paper plate
Blade and Scissors
Shirt

This my shirt with the stain...
 Some materials I used...
The design I liked (link provided above).
First I set my laptop to the brightest setting. Then I taped the tissue paper onto my laptop screen and traced the design on the paper...
After that I taped the outline to the back of the paper plate.
Then I traced the outline on the window so I could see better.
I went over the outline with pen (the plate was glossy and it was hard to see the pencil).
Using scissors I cut the edge of the plate, then with the blade I carefully cut out the design, I would suggest using a box cutter instead but I left mine at work.
I used an old notebook as the surface to cut out the design, it's easier to cut and you won't have to worry about cutting past the paper plate.
Once the stencil was cut I taped it onto my shirt and traced it using the fabric marker.
Then by looking at the web picture I went over the parts that needed to be shaded. I let it dry and ironed it and voila my shirt is done! You can still see the stain but now it seems to be part of the design.
Like I said, it is much easier if you have a printer but I don't have one, eventually I'll get one. ^_^

Summer Love

So this is how I look after I shower? Not that I hadn't been showering in the past two weeks!! but I had been living in my gym clothes trying to take one day at a time. School is finally over, it was 2 very rough weeks. Once school ended I had to pack everything up to move to a new classroom, and then I had training for 3 long days. Yesterday was my first official day of vacation and I've been trying to catch up on some much needed sleep. I'm so glad I finally look like myself again. ^_^

DIY: Stencil your shirt

I love white shirts, I also like coffee, you know what happens when you mix them together? yeap, disaster. I know there are many recipes on how to remove stains, but I actually didn't noticed I had stained my shirt with coffee until it was too late and impossible to remove it. This shirt was in the donation bin and then I remembered I had stencils and fabric markers, so I decided to stencil my shirt. I liked the outcome and I think I'm going to go to the store and buy more stencils, I have one more stained white shirt I don't want to get rid of just yet.

What you need:
Shirt
Crayola markers
Stencil
Iron or dryer
Sheet of paper

Here is my shirt with the coffee stain..
Close up
Materials needed
Place the sheet of paper under shirt to prevent color from bleeding. Place the stencil on your shirt and carefully color with marker, saturate the fabric with the color. You may want to hold on to your stencil as you color in to prevent it from moving.
Once you are done coloring remove the stencil and let it dry for a couple of minutes. After each coloring you may want to wipe off your stencil so that colors don't blend on your next picture.
Once it's dry iron your design for 4 minutes on high heat setting or stick your shirt in the dryer for 30 minutes (by itself).
Finished product!
There's many varieties of stencils, the possibilities are endless and it's fun and quick to do. Hope you like this tutorial! Have a great day!
