Sunday best: Liquid silk skirt

Hi dear ladies, today I tried this quick 60's hairdo tutorial I found on YouTube. Even though it's not in English it was very easy to follow. This morning I felt like wearing bold colors, so I picked my bright pink silk skirt, a vintage necklace and NYX lipstick in Indie Flick. I've been fighting a sinus infection so I wasn't feeling my best this morning but vibrant colors always cheer me up. Hope everyone has a great Sunday!

Pink Lady

Today a lot of students in Texas took the new standardized test, my son had to take the Math section and tomorrow he'll take the Reading section, I'm praying that everything will go well. Standardized tests are always stressful for students and teachers. I'm on the lasts six weeks of school, although I still don't look forward to the end of school I'm sure I'll get there soon, students do tend to get more and more restless as vacation time gets closer, I'll be praying for lots of patience for me too.
I really need to try another hairdo, I'm so lazy in the mornings though, I always end up putting my hair in a bun.
Everything is old.

The sleep-walker who tailored her shirt

Yesterday after I posted on the blog I took a two hour nap, I was so exhausted I fell asleep fast. When I woke up I had a weird feeling, I kind of remembered hearing voices in my sleep, trying to get up, seeing my son in the living room and telling him something (I remember talking but I don't remember what I said) and then getting comfy in bed. However, I do not remember getting up, walking to the living room and walking back to my bed and laying down again. I asked my son if I had been there, just to make sure I hadn't been dreaming and he confirmed I was there! It's such a weird feeling, I hope it doesn't happen again!
On another subject, I wanted to show you this men's rugby shirt I thrifted last year. The fit of the sleeves and the chest were a bit baggy and it was too long. This weekend I tailored it to fit better, you can't see in the before picture but I had to tuck it in so that it wouldn't look so long.
Before
What I did
I marked how much I needed to take in on both sides, then pinned and sewed. I also shortened the length of the shirt, but it's not pictured here. Then I cut the excess fabric.
 After
It fits much better, specially on the sleeves and I don't have to tuck it in anymore, I wore to work today.

Sunday Best: Utterly Romantic

I am pooped ladies, this weekend was pretty busy, it was my son's birthday and I threw him a little birthday party. He had a good time which made it all worth it. Today I plan to stay home and be a slob. I need to recuperate to start the week off right. This is what I wore to church today, since I wore  a bright lipstick I kept everything around the face minimal, no accessories, except for a little pop of color from my earrings. Hope everyone has a great week!

Rain or Shine take 2

One of the things I'm being careful about is not investing time refashioning clothes I will only wear once. In the past I made that mistake, I would refashion something, wear it once, and then it would go into the donation box. That is why I haven't refashioned as much lately. I want to make sure that whatever I make will stay in my closet for many seasons. This refashioned skirt had staying power, I love the scalloped/lace hem and I'm thinking about making another skirt like it. This morning we had a little bit of sunshine and then scattered storms so I had to come home during my lunch time and change into my rain boots.

Refashion: The yellow skirt

Have you ever gotten dressed in a hurry and as soon as you walk out the door you realize how bad your outfit is, but then it's too late to change so you're stuck wearing a bad outfit all day? Well, that's what happened to me yesterday. I was going to show you this refashion but because I disliked my outfit so much I changed back into my pj's as soon as I got home from church. Good thing I was able to wear the refashioned skirt today (again) and this time I did like my outfit. I thrifted this dress 2 years ago and I had shortened it, but then I never wore it because I didn't like the fit or the sleeves. After much thought I decided to make it into a skirt. I'm sure I will wear it more as a skirt than as a dress.

After
I liked the outfit so much I even did a Michael Jackson moonwalk step during recess, but that's another story. ^_^

Wishing every day was Saturday

Oh how I wish every day was Saturday, wouldn't it be nice? Last night I finally made myself refashion a dress in my pile, tomorrow I'll wear it to church and I'll show you. I would stay here and chat some more but my stomach is growling so hard it startled my cat.  Hope you all have a great weekend!

Taking one day at a time

Not everyday is all smiles and flowers at work, today was one of those days (insert screaming tune here). I don't know what is it, but every now and then my kiddos come all pumped up to school and there is no holding them back. Tomorrow will be another day though, a new chance to start over. This is what I wore to work today, I came home during my lunch time and decided to snap a few pictures. I'm glad I did because after work my hair was a mess and I probably had a few extra wrinkles from having a frowny face all day.
I love the neon trend, however, I'm not ready to buy a neon item just yet, for now a little touch of neon on my toes will do.

It's the little bows that count

Hi pretty ladies, today I got some very good news at work. Next school year I will be teaching Pre-K! Our PK teacher is retiring this year so about a month go I asked my principal for the position and he said he'd let me know. Today he gave me the good news. I've taught Kindergarten for 8 years now, and I love it with all of my heart, but I think I am ready for a change. I wouldn't go up though, because I'm an early childhood teacher at heart. I am so happy and excited, and I am looking forward to next year. This is what I wore to work today, these kitten heel pumps are almost the exact same as my other red ones, except these are patent leather, I clipped on some vintage shoe clips to make them look a bit different and my girls loved them, they kept complimenting my shoes. It's the little things that make a big difference huh?

60's kinda day

Hi everybody! Easter weekend is gone, I had an amazing time with my family, but I was so busy I didn't have time to sew or post. Today was cloudy for the most part of the day, except after work when the sun decided to show it's pretty face. This is what I wore to work, finally a 100% thrifted outfit, the dress is vintage and hand-made, although I usually stick to florals, polka dots and striped prints, this dress was too cute to leave behind. Hope everyone has a great week!
All is thrifted.

50's inspired

Is anybody ready for the three day weekend? I am! This Friday will be the first Good Friday we get to have off. We have had snow in the past few winters so we would miss school days and then we would have to make them up on Good Friday and the last day of May. Thankfully it didn't snow this year so we get to enjoy a three-day weekend. I have lots of plans with my son and my friend so I'm really looking forward to the weekend. This is what I wore to work today.
Oh yes, another pair of red shoes, I have a lot, I'm obsessed with red shoes.

DIY: Lengthen a shower curtain

The other day after I put my shower curtain in the dryer I noticed it shrunk. Who knew shower curtains could shrink? The short curtain looked pitiful, so I added some vintage fabric and ribbon to lengthen it. I liked the end result, the new curtain makes my tiny, dark bathroom look a bit brighter. All I did was cut off the top part of the shower curtain and sewed in the fabric, then I topped it with yellow ribbon. My childhood neighbor gave me the idea, she always had things around her house that she had revamped with ribbon, lace and fabric. I don't have before pictures because I hadn't planned on shrinking my curtain but you get the idea. ^_^
I also hand-stiched little bows.
Hope you liked this mini tutorial!
