Can you wash your Coach leather bag?

Well...I don't know if you should but I did. Last week I thrifted this leather Coach bag ($10.81) that was dirty and rusty in some places and was in big need of some good cleaning. I remembered this tutorial from The Elegant Bohemian on how she washed her leather bags and I decided to try it. I tossed the bag in the washer and hoped that it would work. After the bag was washed (in delicate cycle) I put it in the dryer for about 20 minutes (using the Air Dry setting/ no heat). Once I took it out it was still damp so I rubbed leather conditioner. I let it air dry a bit more and then repeated the step of applying conditioner. At the end I put a dry towel inside so it would keep it's shape and let it dry the rest of the night. It's completely dry and it looks much cleaner than before, in fact aside from a few minor stains it looks in excellent shape. If you want to try it I recommend following Serene's tutorial. Here are the before and after pictures.

That's great! I've washed up my thrifted bags with a soapy sponge and that's done the trick as well. Great find1

Great tip. Can you provide the name of the leatherr conditioning you used? Thanks!

Simplybee I used Bick 4 from the Bickmore brand, it's really good, it's not cheap but it definitely helps keep leather supple. I use it in all my leather goods and the bottle lasts a long time. =)
