Blue and pink

Dear ladies thank you so much for your suggestions on the last post. Some of you suggested shortening the dress, which is a great idea. I also agree on the sleeves being too retro, so I will shorten them also. It will be one of my summer refashion projects once school is over. Today I wore the blue vintage dress again with a different hair style and necklace, I got many compliments at work and my students applauded after I modeled it to them (hehehe the good thing about working with little ones is that you can get away with being silly) my kids are so sweet! I'm going to be so sad to see them go, this was one of the best classes I've had so far.
I love these platform sandals, they make me look almost 6 feet tall, I love feeling taller. I can't believe I just said that, back in high school (in Mexico) I used to be bullied for being tall; the average woman is 5"1', I'm 5"6'.
This outfit makes me look so much like my mom. ^_^

70's dresses updated

I've been hiding this 70's dress in my closet since last year, I only wore it once and then I put it away. It's a very nice cotton dress but I'm not sure whether I like it on me. When I put it on I can't stop thinking that it looks like I have on a gigantic sheet, but still it's too nice to toss it out so it's been patiently hanging in my closet.
Update: After much thought I changed my mind and changed into this pretty polka dotted drss I thrifted Saturday at Goodwill, don't go running there, I took them all (just kidding). I did find 4 amazing dresses, 3 for me and 1 for a sweet co-worker that loves vintage as much as I do. I hope she likes it.
Ladies I assure you there is a full slip under this dress, that's not my bra. I think the flash made it see-through in real life you can't see my slip.
That day I went to four thrift stores and left empty handed from 3, it wasn't until the last thrift store that I rarely visit that I found the dresses. Sometimes it's good to visit those thrift stores that you usually skip.

Sunday Best: Cream & Denim

Today I volunteered to be with the babies in the nursery at church. I was expecting little babies but they put me in the 18 month-old room instead. It wasn't as exciting as I thought it would be, maybe because they're not yet talking but I did have a little girl fall asleep in my arms and she made up for the boring morning. I love when little ones fall asleep in my arms, she just hugged me and fell asleep immediately. I decided to wear something comfortable and no jewelry that they could pull off. Oh and I'm sure glad I wore a dark bottom, one lady wore white jeans and a little girl had a poopy leak on her jeans! She handled it with grace though, so I learned a lesson. After church my son and I stopped by 7 eleven for a coke and a hot dog, those things are addictive.

The Good, the Bad & the Ugly

Hello ladies! Well look at me, I'm outside. It's too dark inside because it's cloudy and it's going to rain any minute, but I wanted to do a quick post to show you my necklace, which I bought thanks to the tip from my blogger buddy Lyddie. Today at work I caught a little boy in my class with a cowboy hat and a white beard (I had fake shaving cream in the home center), when I told him not to smear it on his face he looked straight at me very serious and slowly nodded "ok" as if we were part of The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. It was so hard to keep a straight face!

Pink and nude

Hi ladies! Gee I guess I've been keeping myself busy huh? No time to blog as the last day of school approaches. The truth is, in the mornings I'm always in a hurry to get to work and in the evenings I'm too tired and sweaty to take outfit pictures. This is the dress I had bought for Easter and I've worn it a couple of times but I'm a bit disappointed that it shrunk, nothing major but it used to fit a little bit looser. Adding to that I always put on a bit of weight by the end of school because I get busy with events so I work out less and I get anxious and stressed so I eat more. Those are the reasons, but I'm sticking to the shrinking story.

Pink, white, red

Dear ladies I don't know what possessed me on Thursday that I thought I could try the boot camp class at the gym. Today I have parts of me hurting that I didn't know I had. I'm going to try the class again today, that pain is good pain. This is what I'm wearing today, I wanted to have a little fun with my outfit so I wore this slip/skirt I shortened a long time ago. I got the belt for Mother's day from my sweet student intern. I absolutely love this pumps I got at TJ Maxx, I never knew I would wear them so much but they seem to go with everything.

P.S. After much though (3 minutes) I've decided I'm not going to take the class again, I can barely walk. I'm going to take a nap instead.

Purple and red

Dear ladies, my life has been a roller coaster for the past few days, last night as I prayed it really hit me about what it means to give thanks not only for the good things that happen in life but for the bad ones as well. I'm so glad to tell you that things turned out well. Today is Friday and everyone is wearing jeans at school and here am I with heels and a dress, I had a conference at my son's school and I wanted to look presentable so I wore this dress. Everything went well, I even gave a hug to the assistant principal and I wanted to jump out of excitement, of course I praised God on my way to work. Here is what I wore, the pictures are dark because it's going to be a rainy day, I hope everyone has a great weekend!

60's mod dress

Hi ladies! First of all thank you for your kind comments! Some of you have complimented my ability to find great things at the thrift store, the reason I find good things is because I'm there every Saturday (I don't have a very exciting life). I guess with all the thrifting experience I have developed a keen eye for details and quality. This weekend I was thrilled when I found a whole wardrobe of vintage dresses at the thrift store, all from the 60's, I guess someone emptied their granny's closet. Most didn't fit my waist but I found 4 that did, this one included. The only complaint I have about this dress it's that it's polyester, thick polyester, but the color makes me feel very happy, so the color won over the fabric.
I was a bit nervious about wearing it because I didn't want to look like I was wearing a costume so I kept everything modern. I survived today's heat by staying inside all day (testing). Who needs a little black dress?! I love my LGD!

That's so 70's

Hey there lovely ladies! I'm biting my tongue about not liking the 70's fashion because here I am wearing a very 70's look with the hair and all. I think the reason behind not liking the 70's is because of Polyester (insert scary tune here), but I have to bite my tongue again because just this weekend I found a very polyestery-looking dress at the thrift store and I bought it, it's in a lovely granny-smith apple hue plus it fits! Do you know how hard it is to find large sizes in vintage clothes? It's almost like there were no large women back then. Anyways I leave you with this polyester outfit.

Sunday Best: Preppy Florals

Hi there pretty ladies, I hope everyone enjoyed the weekend. Today after church my son and I decided to go on a picnic, the weather has been very nice and we really enjoyed the time outside, we bought Subway for lunch, took a book, a blanket, and his bike and headed on to the park. As long as the weather permits we'll be outside. After the picnic we went to Half-Price Bookstore and then to the dreaded grocery shopping, if there is one kind of shopping I dislike it's for groceries.

To go to a picnic all the fancy stuff came off, I'm learning how to dress for the occasion so that I don't overdress (which I tend to do). What do you think?
At the park with my boy.
I hope everyone has a blessed week!

gray, black and red

Hi there pretty ladies! This week it rained a lot, when it was thundering my children started getting a bit scared, you know they are only 5 and 6 years old, so I tried to reassure them, but the winner was a little girl that said "don't worry it's God playing bowling!" She's the little girl who always says the funniest things, she'd be perfect for Kids Say the Darndest Things, do you remember that show?

Everything is thrifted.

From salmon to coral red

Hi ladies! Somehow I always do my before pictures with sneakers and this Runner t-shirt (my gym outfit hehe). This skirt was salmon, still is since I have 2, but I wanted a red one so I bought the dye and dyed it last weekend, however because I was impatient I didn't wait 60 minutes stirring the skirt in the dye, instead I took it out after 45 minutes, it looks red in the picture but it real life it's more of a coral reddish color, not scarlet red. I wore these sky high sandals to work again and it wasn't a good idea, I spent the whole day on my feet and I had to walk through a playground full of rocks, I almost lost my balance.

After
Today is Mexican's Mother's Day so Feliz Dia de las Madres! Ain't I lucky? I get to celebrate twice and I got two very nice gifts from my students.

Zebra print and cream

Today I took the day off from work, I finally caught up on cleaning the house and doing the laundry. I had not thought much about it but I only have 4 more weeks of school! Wow, time sure flies, I'm not excited (yet) as this year I've had an amazing class, but I do look forward to vacation. Plans for today include running to the library and getting my car inspection sticker renewed, it's already expired (hope I don't get a ticket on my way there).

Sunday Best: Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day to all moms! Today we celebrated by eating out for breakfast, nothing fancy but it was nice to go on a breakfast date with my son. My gift to myself was a Bare Essentials make-up starter kit, my face has been breaking out lately and the puffy eyes and dark circles are getting hard to disguise. The Ulta make-up consultant made a whole mess on my face with plasters of cakey make-up, yuck! I came home and washed it off immediately. This morning I did just a little amount of mineral make-up and it felt just fine. Of course I had to wear my newly refashioned dress!

My son's gift to me was to spend "all" day at the thrift store (he doesn't like going unless they have lots of books and somewhere to sit) so I immediately obliged, can't wait to show you what I found.

Laura Ashley dress refashion

I thrifted this Laura Ashley dress at Thrift Town, as you can see it was a couple of sizes larger. I love LA dresses because the cotton she uses for her dresses is an amazing quality and the prints are very cute, here's another LA dress I refashioned last year. I was supposed to get this dress done before Easter but I didn't know how to make it work and fit me. Finally I got my Singer's sewing book and started reading for ideas on how to tailor clothes, it helped a lot, except when it came down to the sleeves, I almost made it sleeveless (it's easier) but the ruffled collar would make it hard to wear it under a cardigan and it would definitely hide the beautiful ruffles, the other and most important reason for not making it sleeveless was that I have fat arms and I rather hide those bat-wings. I wasn't thrilled about sleeves either because I was afraid the dress would look too country, nevertheless I went with the sleeved version.
Before
After
As you can see the ruffled collar goes all the way around the neckline, it's quite fluffy, I got the fabric from an old pajama top.
I wish I had made different sleeves but I'm pleased with the outcome, it's actually the first time I sewed sleeves so I'm not going to fuss about it they came out pretty good...
Even Jingles was quite amazed with the outcome as you can see above.
Happy early Mother's Day to all the beautiful Moms out there!

Sunday Best: Victorian Inspired

Hi ladies! I had a wonderful day at church today, there was help needed in the toddlers nursery because a few teachers were not able to go and I volunteered, my outfit was not very appropriate for a class full of 2-year olds but I don't have a problem sitting on the floor in my Sunday clothes. A little girl caressed my hair and I thought she was going to say she liked it but instead she sneezed on my face by accident, that was hilarious we both had a laugh about it after I wiped my face and told her next time she needs to cover her mouth. One little girl was very cranky, after a while she agreed to sit on my lap to listen to me read, then she fell asleep, I love when babies fall asleep in my arms. Ladies I loved working with the little ones today, hopefully I'll be able to help again! I had not worked with such young age group but they have such cute personalities and I was able to hug and kiss all of them.
I thrifted this 70's dress for $7 dollars, I usually stay away from anything 70's because I am not a fan of 70's fashion, however this dress is so pretty, I wanted to go for a Victorian-inspired look so I threw in the refashioned pearl necklace and braided my hair all around the nape of my head. I wore boots because it's chilly outside, I love cold weather!
