Blue, white and red

Another great day at work and a beautiful day it was. Today I changed the white shirt for a white skirt. I took my camera to work and took many pictures of my kids and made videos of them singing, let me tell you those little ones love to be in front of the camera!
Wearing: thrifted Liz Claiborne eyelet skirt, Gap shirt, vintage necklace from friend's granny and TJ Maxx pumps.
Here are my 24 babies, at age 5-6 it's hard to snap their little fingers so I told them they could clap instead. I taught them the song the day before, aren't they just the sweetest? If angels sing, then they must sound like kindergartners.

Floral & white

Continuing with my reflection on my closet  I have to say I love white button up shirts, most of my shirts are white button ups. I had been buying prints because I thought my closet lacked color up top, seeing many bloggers wear pretty tops with all types of prints and colors made me want to have them too, and I often thought of my tops as boring and lacking. Then I noticed that no matter how many pretty colorful tops I bought I still wore the white tops the most. I even tried to stop myself from buying white tops but as soon as I had to pick between a printed, colorful shirt and a white shirt my heart would lean towards the white one. I wear white shirts a lot and I've come to peace with wanting to wear white tops only, I guess that white button ups are my wardrobe staple, if designer Carolina Herrera (the queen of white, crispy, white shirts) can wear white shirts everyday for years so can I. Do you have wardrobe staple?
In my very colorful classroom I always feel like snow white with little furniture all around me.

Pink, white and blue

Hi ladies, today we got a memo at work about dress code, I'm kind of glad we got it, some teachers wondered if it was for them and others wondered why, I think we needed it. Yesterday I was going through some old pictures of mine and I've noticed how blogging has improved the way I dress but it has also been hard not to get carried away, especially when I was newer to blogging and I wanted to follow every trend I saw on other blogs.

For a while I got a little bit lost on trends and styles that weren't my own, like dressing too costumey and doing too much vintage, which it looks great on some but it wasn't me. Only recently I've begun to dress in a way that makes me feel like me and I've realized that I love vintage but wearing too much makes me feel self-conscious and uncomfortably shy, I've also learned that I have to be very careful with vintage shoes, just because they look cute on some doesn't mean that they work for me. Yesterday I enjoyed reading a post by Waves, who wrote honestly about blogging and her style, it's really good, she writes some very amazing posts I highly recommend her blog.
Trying to follow my rule of only wearing a little vintage at a time, I'm wearing an Anthropologi skirt, vintage shirt, thrifted belt and Chico's cardigan (also thrifted).
Short necklace is from F21 and pendant is vintage from flea market.
Shoes are Dexter, thrifted.
By the way thank you, thank you for all your kind comments, I try to reciprocrate as much as I can and I honestly appreciate the time you take to check out my blog.

Tailor you shirt

Ladies if you are like me then you've found many wonderful shirts at the thrift store that are very large and outdated, sort of like 80's shape with batty wings, I mean sleeves. This weekend I was eyeing some shirts to take out of my closet when I decided to tailor them instead, nothing to loose right? I found this really good tutorial on youtube that tells you how to tailor your shirt, it's very simple and easy to follow, here's the link, hope it helps, it worked for me and my 7 tailored shirts.

Sunday Best: Easter

Happy Easter Day everyone! Just came back from church, we had a great service to celebrate that He has Risen! Today I thought it would be a great day to wear pastels because if there is one day when pastels look good it's Easter Day. Everyone at church wore their Sunday bests and all the girls in my bible study group looked so pretty in their floral dresses, for the first time I didn't feel overdressed, best of all I got to see my son in a tie again.
I had been working on a dress all weekend but because we went to the baseball game I didn't finish it, so I had to improvise this morning, I had no idea what I would wear, all I knew is I wanted to wear pastels.
I'm wearing: thrifted Anthropologie skirt, thrifted vest, Gap shirt, DIY necklace and DSW shoes.
Have a great Easter Day!

One skirt 2 days

Ladies I'm so excited my son and I are off to our first baseball game ever! For you sports fans this is not news worthy but for us it is, I almost named my post Take me out to the ballgame. I made my skirt Thursday night and I've already worn it 2 days in a row. These 2 outfits are very similar but I like them both.
This is what I wore yesterday to Good Friday service and to do some shopping.
This is what I'm wearing today, very similar looks but hey what can I say, I love orange. Today I took the time to tailor all of my shirts, it's very easy, I'll share the tutorial with you soon.

Refashioned skirt: color block

Hi everybody! I have another refashioend skirt, I wanted an orange skirt because orange is my favorite color. I found this skirt at the thrift store for $5 bucks, I wanted to wait till they brought the price down because it had a stain, but after waiting for a week I finally gave in and bought it, the color is perfect and it was enough fabric to make my skirt.
I don't know if you can see the stain but in real life it was darker, I tried washing it off with stain remover and it didn't work so I had to cut an inch off the fabric.
My new skirt.
This is how I styled it, my shoes are old from DSW.
Being very bold with colors, I saw this color combination on a magazine and I really wanted to try it.
The necklace is vintage, I just pinned one of my favorite pins to it.
I hope everyone has a great Easter weekend!

Gingham and stripes

Today it was a rainy kind of day, I love those days except for the fact that I would rather spend them at home sleeping late, but it was a great day at school nevertheless. I wish my students were old enough to make their own paper boats all by themselves, we would have had a blast, but since I could not think of making 24 paper boats in less than 10 minutes and my kids would not have had the patience to wait then we just took a nature walk around the school garden to see if we could spy some earth worms, we didn't find any, but guess what we found? 4 monarch caterpillars! Boy were we excited! We took them in, put them in our butterfly habitat and I tell you, we could spend the whole day watching those little caterpillars eat, eat, and eat.
I bought this pretty trench at TJ Maxx, I think I'm going to replace those buttons for wooden buttons.

1950's pendant from flea market.
I'm wearing my thrifted Ann Tailor shirt, thrifted and refashioned skirt, vintage pendant, flats are old, trench from TJ Maxx.

Refashioned necklace #3

Ladies, what oh what will I wear on Easter day? That is a great question that I don't have an answer to! We'll see if I can whip out something, maybe Saturday would be a great opportunity to refashion that Laura Ashley dress that's been sitting in my refashion pile since Spring break. Anyways, today I want to share one more piece of jewelry I refashioned from some old necklaces. I have fun making these things.
From a too-tight necklace, extra pearly beads and an old broken pin...and black glass beads not shown here...
I made this, very simple refashion but I think it looks better, at least now I can wear it around my neck.

Sunday Best: Yellow & Pink

Do you know what happens when you do a gazzillion things and barely get any sleep? Well how about you think it's Easter weekend, you go to church and find out it's not until next week. I knew the date and somehow in all that cleaning and cooking and washing and drying a screw in my head must have gotten loose or something. Thank you ladies for not embarrassing me, although I had a good laugh and then I blushed as red as my shoes. Here's my Easter outfit for the non-Easter day. Happy non-Easter day everyone!
Dress and shoes: TJ Maxx, Necklaces thrifted and reworked, cardi: New York & Co.

Have a wonderful week!

Celebrating a birthday

Hi everyone! What a beautiful day it has been, the day was perfect, I cleaned my house, did the laundry, cooked! and had a family birthday party to celebrate my son's 11th birthday, my son's birthday is actually tomorrow but we celebrated today because tomorrow everybody goes to church at different times.
This was today's outfit, I felt like a 50's mom, I think it was the pearl necklace or maybe the poofy skirt. Everything is thrifted, the skirt is vintage and shortened by me, I love it because it screams Spring.

Below: This is part of my family, my sister, brother-in-law and my twin nephews, my friend, and my son's friend. We had such a good time, I'm so grateful to God for them. Little nephew throwing a tantrum.
My son and I cutting his cake.

Ruffles & Stuff

Hi lovely ladies, I hope everyone is having a great week, mine has been very blessed I can't complain. Today's outfit feels very dainty and lady-like, I think it's because of the ruffled shirt. Does anyone else think Liz Claiborne is underrated? I love her clothes line, I just thrifted this LC skirt yesterday ($4). Lyddie inspires me when she wear her turquoise jewelry as an accent to her outfit so I had to try it too. On a different note, I can't get enough of red shoes, I own 4 pairs and if I saw another pair I would buy it in a heart beat, I think they are a splash of fun to an otherwise regular outfit.
I think pointy shoes are very flattering to the legs.
Two necklaces, the one with the "crystal" teardrop was refashioned by me from 2 old necklaces.
Vintage ruffled top, Liz Claiborne thrifted skirt, Vintage Christian Dior belt, thrifted/ refashioned necklaces, heels by Guess from TJ Maxx.

Bow tie girl

You'd be surprised of what I can do with a shoe clip and a bra strip in less than 2 minutes, like this bow tie. Last night I set my clothes and I was going to wear a necklace with this outfit but then this morning I thought "this would look great if I had a bow tie" so I opened my drawer and behold there was this little shoe clip, I searched for some ribbon but there was none to be seen and then this bra strip from a strapless bra showed up to save the day and make my outfit fun. And just because, I threw on a vintage pearl necklace too.
Nice, fluffy bag.
Everything I'm wearing is thrifted.

Sunday Best: Pink & Navy blue

Hi everyone, I hope all of you had a wonderful weekend! Today I woke up late so I just grabbed whatever I could and put it on and ran out the door, I take puncuality very serious and I dislike being late. I still managed to wear some of my faves, like a vintage slip and pearl necklace from my friend's granny and this L.L. Bean thrifted shirt which I love because it's so well made. I checked stitches, pockets, seams, collar, buttons and buttonholes and everything was impeccable.
I'm also wearing my vintage loafers and this beautiful, hand tooled, vintage bag made in Mexico, which I found at an antique mall yesterday, it was $20 but I know these bags are far more expensive than that because of the time and craftmanship it takes to make them. When we got home I immediately cleaned it with leather moisturizer, stitched some loose threads and glued a loose corner and now it's perfect, it's big and roomy so everything I need fits in there plus there's room for extra. =)
I'm still working on the scalloped hem tutorial, other clothing and jewelry refashions soon to come! I hope everyone has a blessed week.

Green, blue and red

Hello lovely ladies, is anyone else excited about Friday? I will finally get some time to rest and maybe I can manage to sleep late on Saturday...but I'm not counting on it, after 7 years my brain is set to wake up at 6:00 a.m. everyday, 7:00 the latest though I can make myself stay in bed till 8:30 a.m. This is what I wore today, it's getting very hot outside but thankfully it wasn't very windy.
Tip: If anyone is making this skirt (McCalls 5811) I would suggest letting it hang a few days like the instructions state, I was so eager to finish the skirt I only let it hang for a day and after hanging in my closet for a couple of days the fabric has stretched and there is one place in the back that is now uneven. Reminder to myself: Follow directions and don't use hem tape (which I did, woops!).

Wearing:
Thrifted: Loft Cardigan, Vintage shirt, belt & pin
Self made: Skirt (McCalls 5811)
Shoes: Dillards (at 70% off = $26)

Refashion: Kelly green skirt

I had been obsessed with this Kelly green Skirt from Anthro, I dreamed of the day it would go on sale so I could buy it although at $68 it wasn't that expensive (compared to other Anthropologie skirts). Many things stopped me from buying it, the price, I dislike elastic waistbands and it was a bit too short for me, not to mention that is way too unflattering.
Once I tried it on I knew I had to make my own Kelly green skirt so I bought this dress at the thrift store(cute yes but too big) and some Rit dye (kelly green dye).
Tip: I don't recommend dyeing white, I had to dye the dress twice to get a color close enough to what I wanted. Next time I'll try to find something that is closer to the color I want.
After much thought I decided to make my skirt a different shape, I wanted a full skirt but something a bit more flattering than the Anthro skirt. The Anthro skirt's elastic waistband added extra bulk around the waist.
Just for fun I used a pink zipper instead of a green one and then decided I wanted to wear my pink belt and sweater as well. Nothing says preppy like pink and green.
Next on my list are an orange skirt and a yellow one too.
Wearing: refashioned skirt, BR sweater, Gap belt, Bass loafers, Vintage cameo from friend's granny , flower pin from Waves.

Gingham & Denim

Ladies I'm officially a coffee convert. I had nothing against coffee I just didn't want to drink it (I've seen how people act when they don't have their morning coffee). I changed my mind today because I felt so tired and sleepy, this is the second week I feel like I'm going to fall asleep at work so I went to the nearest 7 eleven to buy a coffee. I liked my French Vanilla coffee but I love this skirt from Anthropologie even more, at half the price I couldn't pass it up.
Pretty vintage coat thrifted ($1.75!)
I can't say NO to red shoes either, forget that the right one had a hole in it and I spent 20 minuted looking for it's lost partner at the thrift store, for $1.75 Steve Madden red shoes are a steal. After I cleaned them thoroughly with Alcohol I bought a red nail polish to match the shoes and I bet you can't even tell where the dime size hole was.
Excuse the muddy (left) shoe, the soccer ball fell into the mudd and a teacher's gotta do what a teacher's gotta do, even if it involves getting her pretty thrifted shoes muddy.
Oh the hair, it is so windy outside I'm sure glad my head didn't blow away.
Wearing an Anthropologie skirt, thrifted shirt and shoes and vintage coat.

Sunday Best: from granny's closet

Hi everyone, Happy Sunday! I hope everyone is enjoying this awesome day. Today I wore this skirt I refashioned from my friend's granny clothes. I had to make it a pencil skirt because the fabric was not enough to make a full skirt. I like the outcome but it was sooo hard to find a top for it, I'm not pleased even with the one I'm wearing. I barely had enough fabric for a pencil skirt because of the way the fabric was cut so I added the little black part from another old skirt. I'm a bit worried of what my friend will think when she sees what I've done with her granny's skirt, she mentioned how she remembered her grandma wearing it to church on Spring days...and now it doesn't look like her granny's church at all so I'm a bit worried she won't like what I did with it (yikes!).
Before
After
All those hours walking at the mall and still I didn't wear the shirt I bought, I'm wearing a vintage shirt (sleeves shortened by me) and Rampage shoes.
Hope everyone has a blessed week!

Boater Shoes

Hi everybody, hope everyone is enjoying their weekend. Today I got to work on a refashion I kept putting off because it involved dye and I'm very lazy when it comes to spending an hour in front of the sink, but nevertheless it had to be done. As soon as the garment dries I will be able to sew my new creation.
Here's a sneak preview! ^_-
Today I'm wearing my refashioned red skirt with a vintage top and my Jeffrey Campbell boater shoes. I got them on super sale from Urban Outfitters during the winter. I love UO sales.
