I thrifted this Laura Ashley dress at Thrift Town, as you can see it was a couple of sizes larger. I love LA dresses because the cotton she uses for her dresses is an amazing quality and the prints are very cute, here's another LA dress I refashioned last year. I was supposed to get this dress done before Easter but I didn't know how to make it work and fit me. Finally I got my Singer's sewing book and started reading for ideas on how to tailor clothes, it helped a lot, except when it came down to the sleeves, I almost made it sleeveless (it's easier) but the ruffled collar would make it hard to wear it under a cardigan and it would definitely hide the beautiful ruffles, the other and most important reason for not making it sleeveless was that I have fat arms and I rather hide those bat-wings. I wasn't thrilled about sleeves either because I was afraid the dress would look too country, nevertheless I went with the sleeved version.
Even Jingles was quite amazed with the outcome as you can see above.
Before
After
As you can see the ruffled collar goes all the way around the neckline, it's quite fluffy, I got the fabric from an old pajama top.
I wish I had made different sleeves but I'm pleased with the outcome, it's actually the first time I sewed sleeves so I'm not going to fuss about it they came out pretty good...
Happy early Mother's Day to all the beautiful Moms out there!

You made the dress into something completely wearable and beautiful. Love the ruffled collar too! Well done. My refashions are all so easy and not much really happens, but yours are amazing!
Look at your adorable little mower. SO sweet! This just made my day : ) Your dress is pretty. Your arms are NOT fat. You are an amazing mother. Sending love.

Super cute! A job well done! The essence of the dress is still preserved but it as a fresh, contemporary look.
Your refashioned dress looks great. Congratulations.
I just have to link my Laura Ashly refashion, which I recently posted http://bit.ly/il3TPO. Not as complex as yours.
I like the refashion dress especially the ruffle collar. Congrats for raising such a GREAT son. Happy Mother's Day!! :)
ps. I'm happy your back!! The Blogsphere missed you very much.
Jingles has good taste. I think the result is so much prettier than the original. Nice work!
Happy Mother's Day.
hehe thank you Mrs. J I was busy with life outside the blogsphere and was also taking a break. =)
Hi Shey! What an amazing transformation! Well done! I'm so impressed that you charged in and revamped the original in such a lovely (and courageous!) way! SO CUTE! Happy Mother's Day to you! You are smart to teach your son to mow. My mother told me, "Do not learn to start the lawn mower." It was good advice, but I've since learned to mow and I do it to help my husband when he is traveling. I'd rather dig in the flower beds.
I enjoy your blog very much! I have four more weeks of school. How many weeks do you have?
Great job with the dress! I agree about LA; their prints are adorable and the quality is very good, too.
