I'm back ladies! I have a tutorial for this elbow-patched sweater from Zara. Ever since I saw this picture from The Sartorialist I knew I had to make my own!
Materials needed:
vintage blazer with patches
old cardigan
needle and thread
seam ripper
Optional: sewing machine
I had a vintage cashmere sweater that went perfect with the patches from this trifted jacket, both things were $1.50 so the total cost to make my sweater was $3 bucks. ^_^
Start by taking off the elbow patches from an old blazer (preferably many sizes smaller so it won't break your heart to tear it apart).
Try the sweater on and place the patches at elbow level, I drew the outline with chalk on top of my sweater so I knew where it would go exactly. I couldn't take a picture of that step but you want to make sure those patches are in the right place.
After the patches were in place I stitched them so that they would not move when sewing them.
This is how it looked on the reverse when I was done stitching.
The hard part was finding a way to sewthe patches in place through the neck hole, I'm glad I stitched everything in place instead of pinning it. If you don't have a sewing machine you can sew by hand.
Voila! Your new (vintage) version of the Zara elbow patched sweater!
Enjoy!

I bet you will look great in it! I don't think I could wear it but I am only 1/100th as cool as you ; )
Have a great Friday tomorrow!
I can't wait to see you wear this! The elbow patches are such a good idea and so easy!
I can't wait to see the way you style it!
Nicely done. I totally know how you feel when you thrift something with the intentions of cutting it up, but hate the idea of ruining it.
I can't wait to see you styling this sweater. It is just too cute! And you get to feel all smug for paying $3 for the whole thing. ;)
